Volume 07 has arrived!
What a night! Thank you to everyone who celebrated FORGOTTEN LANDS Volume 07: Poetics of Architecture with us at MoCADA. Your presence and engagement made the evening unforgettable.
Special thanks to guest editor Shameekia Shantel Johnson for shaping this landmark volume and guiding such a thoughtful conversation, and to featured artists Abigail Lucien, Julian Alexander, and Kearra Amaya Gopee for expanding how we think about architecture of the body, memory, philosophy, and design, across the Caribbean and diaspora.
We’re grateful for the MoCADA team for co-hosting and their ongoing support of artists and cultural practitioners of the African diaspora. Cheers to Ten to One Rum for keeping spirits high throughout the evening.
Looking ahead, we're excited to build more programs around Poetics of Architecture throughout the coming year — soon come!
Keep the momentum going:
CARIBBEAN SOLIDARITY IN THE WAKE OF HURRICANE MELISSA
We are holding in our hearts all those affected by Hurricane Melissa across Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. The storm has left a trail of destruction, exposing deep vulnerabilities while once again revealing the strength and resilience of Caribbean communities.
We have compiled resources and organizations responding on the ground and within the diaspora. We invite our community to stand together—whether through donations, sharing reliable information, or sustaining attention on recovery efforts. Your care helps strengthen the collective resilience of the Caribbean and its people.

Last chance to see Sweetblood!
🗓️ November 6 - 8
📍JACK, 20 Putnam Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238
Volume 07 contributor Camille Simone Thomas, a Detroit-born Jamaican-American playwright and screenwriter, developed Sweetblood during her residency at JACK. Set in Jamaica in 1727, the play follows three free Afro-Taíno Maroon sisters as they navigate love, land, and liberation in the face of British invasion and the rise of the sugar revolution. Reimagining the voices of women who resisted oppression, Thomas asks what it truly means to survive and resist.
