Volume 08 Cover has arrived
We're excited to open up pre-orders and reveal the cover of Volume 08: Crossing the Horizon! The front and back covers features Georgia Semple's Though It Tarry, It Spoke (2026). The painting sets the artist's uncle reading a postcard sent by her grandfather, a moment where the everyday gives way to inherited faith carried across continents. Transparent postcards drift across the surface, layering family photographs, handwritten correspondence, and archival fragments into the scene.
Georgia Semple (@georgiasemple) is a London-based painter whose practice is rooted in her Guyanese heritage. Working across oil, ceramic, collage, and embroidery, she draws on family archives, biblical narrative, and the carved language of ancient petroglyphs to hold identity, faith, and connection in a single frame, where the sacred and the ordinary exist without hierarchy.

Brigade Days at Ceiba Valley Farms, CT
Ceiba Valley Farm is a collective of eight queer, trans, Afro-Indigenous farmers and multidisciplinary artists from New York City, first generation Americans and migrants from the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad.
With support from a Community Land Trust, they're building a farm-arts hub rooted in sustainability and food sovereignty. Their valley property, once the Homonick dairy farm, is anchored by a Ceiba tree, native to their homelands, a reminder that growth starts small.
This season they're calling the community in for Brigade Days, hands-on work days built around brush management, small building projects, and tool maintenance to get the fields ready. Learn more about the next event this Sunday, August 9

Dr. Margarita Lila Rosa (Vol. 06) curated Under a Plantain Tree: Notes on Liberation at the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL), bringing together Ronald "EFE" Ramirez, Jeffrey Meris, Zion Estrada, Laurena Finéus, and Luis Gutierrez to sit with freedom as something iterative, fugitive, and unfinished.
A Return to Self is A Return to Love at Ace Hotel New York

At Water's Edge: Thresholds of Memory at Gallery 51

Andrae Green (Vol. 04) treats the water's edge as a liminal space, a boundary where land, air, and sea meet and dissolve into one another. For Green, this threshold isn't just a geographic marker, it's a site of memory and transformation, rendered through fragmented scenes and shifting perspectives that collapse past and present into a single psychological space.

The Art of the House Party by Dark Laboratory

Dark Laboratory hosts a full day at House Savacou on Saturday, August 15, including a panel on Caribbean diaspora and mothering with Tao Leigh Goffe and Ania Freer (Vol. 04). The group exhibition Contradictory Omens, featuring Tajah Ellis (Vol. 07), is also on view.
Afribembé: Under One Sun at Harlem Week Main Stage

The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute co-presents their 8th annual Afribembé Festival with Harlem Week on Sunday, August 16. Expect steel pan, a Carnival procession, and performances from Pan Evolution Steel Orchestra, Kofago Dance Ensemble, Los Pleneros de la 21, Danza Fiesta, and a Children's Village across the street at Howard Bennett Park.

During I Am Caribbeing's 4th annual Governors Island residency, six artists, Asha Hanna , King David , Emily Manwaring , Shaeka Marson , S. PhaFa Roy , and Danielle Privat , trace Caribbean cultural, geopolitical, and economic identity from the Transatlantic Slave Trade to the present. ¢urren$ea plays on the intersection of currency + commerce, the movement over ocean + air currents, tracing the Caribbean Odyssey through visual art that moves beyond the tourism complex.
The House That Freedoms Built at Rollins Museum of Art

La Vaughn Belle (Vol. 01, Vol. 08) opens a new survey exploring freedom and the built environment. The installation centers three white houses inspired by 18th-century homes built by formerly enslaved people in Frederiksted, St. Croix, their walls and roofs carved with elaborate fretwork. The work traces 200 years of Danish colonial rule on the island and the legacy it left behind.
