Karla Claudio & Hector Eliazar - A Sigil's Landscape, Jiquilite
The Nomadic Pigment Lab travels from Borikén to La Barbacoa, Dominican Republic to meet with Eliazar Ortiz, an artist and ethnobotanical enthusiast who is creating a personal language of sigils and natural pigments. Eliazar’s creative practice is guided by Indigenous and Maroon traditions that connect them to the non-human species and natural forces of their home. Drawing on their Haitian and Dominican heritage, Eliazar creates Guari Kreyol, a syncretic language of symbols that permeates all beings and elements depicted in their paintings, photographs, and installations.
